Event Duration: 180 minutes
Human Rights Arts and Film Festival (HRAFF) invites you to an afternoon of film and music that will transport you to a Russian Speakeasy. Featuring DJ Systa BB spinning an eclectic selection of soviet serenades to while away the day, this is a rare opportunity to view animation in a pop-up communal environment. So come along comrade and re-examine history behind the ink-lines of propaganda.
A collection of nine animated short films specifically curated for HRAFF by Zak Hepburn.
Anti-American, Anti-British, Anti-German, Anti-Capitalist and Anti-Fascist, this collection of animated propaganda shorts from the early 1920s through to the 1980s features vivid imagery aimed at swaying the hearts and minds of audiences. Striking works from talented animators, humorous but ultimately chilling, these highly stylised films burn with a political fervour. Relics of a totalitarian past, they’ve since fallen into obscurity. With hypnotic soundtracks, these films will take you on a journey back to the most pivotal conflicts and heated ideological wars of the 20th century.
For the past two decades DJ Systa BB has been broadcasting, writing about and DJing the music that binds us. From running Afrobeat clubs to Gypsy nights of mayhem she can be currently found producing and presenting The Good The Dub & The Global on RRR.
