CLUB TWOK is about putting DJ and EDM culture into live music. Played on an electric violin and drums.

"You've got artists like Diplo coming out comparing DJs who play for 4 hours keeping bodies moving to the bands who do their 45 minute sets," says Xani Kolac (electric violin/vocals), "Well, we wanted to challenge that."

For four weeks during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, electric violin/drums duo, The Twoks curated an LDM (Live Dance Music) party series on Saturday nights from 11pm until late. Very late. Like, 3am-late. It was a hit and so CLUB TWOK returns as a monthly event.

"When we get up and play at CLUB TWOK we're using elements of beat mixing to get from one song to the next. There's no break between songs to chat to the audience, just continuous dancing music made for everybody in the moment. And we can play all night, don't worry about that!"

Always up for a challenge, The Twoks are known for constantly evolving their live show and recorded music. Music-making chameleons, this duo have gone from all-instrumental, to fringe festivals, to folk festivals and back again. On changing styles, Xani observes that, "It takes a while to work out where you wanna sit along the musical spectrum - it seems like there are expectations to pick one place and stick to it. It's not necessarily about us having evolved to this point, more that we've stripped off some layers to find what was always there - a love for music that makes us wannabe and feel good doing it. I think they're calling that dance music these days."
