About the Performers
Jali Buba was born into a famous musical family in Senegambia and has been composing music, singing and dancing since he was five. Now his style is a combo of flavours, from traditional Kora tunes, to Afro Manding, to Jazz, Blues to Slasa, Reggae and traditional Senegambian styles.
Barbara combines classical training with folk influences to create her own unique sound. Her traditional folk and original songs reflect the beauty of the natural environment and celebrate the heroism of ordinary people. Her Celtic Harp combined with vocals, blend together superbly.
Ping Jiang is a Chinese Guzheng player and teacher. She began learning the Guzheng at the age of nine and has studied under several Guzheng masters. She excels in both traditional and modern techniques in her interpretation of Guzheng music.
Alfirio played the flamenco guitar from the age of 12. After a compulsory stint in the military service, he made a radical decision in Paraguay at the age of 22 to specialise in the more eclectic Paraguayan Harp. The harp was first brought to the New World from Spain withthe first conquistador, and now 400 years ago. An elegant musician, Alfirio is technically perfect and musically an astute performer.
Skarabrae are Georgia Martin (voice), Tom Martin (guitar) and Frances Thiele (harp). Skarabrae have created their own unique interpretation of folk music from the British Isles. As Skarabrae, their collaboration produces a wonderful, moody soundscape of traditional folk music with a jazzy edge.
