Lucy Wise & the B'Gollies Album Preview
9th Nov 2012
Presenter: Lucy Wise
Website: http://www.lucywise.com.au/
Event Duration: 180 minutes
Daughter of a West Australian Luthier and singer songwriter, Lucy Wise spent her childhood singing with the Wise Family Band. Drawing inspiration from Appalachian and Celtic folk music, Lucy’s songs sketch universally recognizable stories woven around everyday characters and places. The B’Gollies includes Chris Stone (violin), Holly Downes (double bass) and Graham McLeod from The String Contingent; and Mischa Herman (accordion), who bring influences from their backgrounds in Classical, European folk, Celtic and American music. With both virtuosity and sensitivity, the band puts storytelling at the centre of their arrangements of songs that are all about people and the small things that illuminate everyday life.
“A wonderfully natural singer and uncommonly gifted writer, Lucy leads an excellent band. Prediction: within this decade Lucy will be a noted songster, worldwide.” – Doug Spencer, ABC Radio National
Lucy Wise & the B'Gollies present a preview of their forthcoming album When We Wander Far From Home. This is a one off chance to hear their new songs before the band heads into the studio in February next year to record their second album.
Opening the show will be Melbourne's Stephen Taberner, leader of The Spooky Men's Chorale and Big Mouth and a great songster in his own right.
Come along for a wonderful night of music and songs from some of Melbourne's finest songwriters and musicians.
