Fred Smith in concert with Liz Frencham & band
23rd Jun 2012
Presenter: Fred Smith

Event Duration: 120 minutes
Its about time Australia caught up with Fred Smith. This remarkable singer-songwriter – who at various times reveals influences that range from Paul Kelly via Lou Reed to Loudon Wainwright III to Leonard Cohen – "keeps releasing amazingly accomplished albums.” (Bruce Elder, SMH)
The critical acclaim has been coming for years, but Fred Smith's remarkable 2011 release Dust of Uruzgan has been the watershed. Written while working an 18 month stint in southern Afghanistan, Dust of Uruzgan has been described as “raw, remarkably honest and suitably ambivalent about war” and “without doubt, a masterpiece”.
The album has earned Smith comparisons with Bogel, Schumann and Don Walker. But it also showcases the breadth of his writing
covering the waterfront from classic Australians-at-war anthems, to entrancing reflective ballads, to outrageous comic dirges.
With special guest Liz Frencham on double bass, and band, Fred will be performing songs from Dust of Uruzgan, his back catalogue and Frencham Smith duo albums.
If you love great songwriting, come and see what the fuss is about.
