Of his workshops Benny says: “When the workshops are going great and the people really responsive, I have gone over 3 hours. But usually the average for me is 1.5 to 2.5 hours. I cover basic music theory and the importance of it, strumming techniques, basic chords, how to approach learning a song as a solo, the importance of chord triads and intros and chord turnarounds. The intros and chord turnarounds seem to be very popular in the workshops and I usually spend the most time with it.”

A founding member of the Aliis, a group that performed with legendary Hawaiian entertainer Don Ho for decades, Benny Chong has played ukulele since childhood and is now one of the most respected and influential jazz uke artists in the world. A regular on Hawaii’s professional music circuit, Benny has taken the genre to a new level, both through his challenging repertoire and the complexity of his techniques.
