Event Duration: 180 minutes
Jessica Says is the moniker of 22 year old Melbourne singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jessica Venables. Jessica has lent her talents (vocals, cello, piano and keyboards) to the likes of New Buffalo, Crayon Fields, Paul Kelly, Jens Lekman, Micah P. Hinson, Sly Hats, and Luluc for touring and recording. In March 2009, Jessica Says' debut recording We Need to Talk was released to critical acclaim.
We Need to Talk was 'Soundscaped' on RRR and made various 'album of the week' lists including on ABC's Radio National. Produced by Melbourne indie luminary Geoff O’Connor (Crayon Fields, Sly Hats), We Need To Talk features ten songs written and arranged by Jessica combining her vocals, cello, piano and keyboard playing. New Buffalo’s Sally Seltmann adds beautiful vocal harmonies on keynote album track 'I’ll Set The Night Upon You', O’Connor also making an appearance as guitarist on Nico-esque ballad 'Some Graceful Kind Of Silence' and Jessica’s younger brother and band-mate Nicholas contributing virtuosic violin playing to 'Keep Me Awake'. Jessica Says' spectacular live show incorporates piano, violin, cello and guitar.
Jessica Says will be joined by must-see duo Kid Sam. Tall cousins Kishore Ryan (Seagull, Otouto) and Kieran Ryan form the melted, subverted, deconstructed troubadour duo Kid Sam. Their debut self-titled LP has been highly touted and received wide acclaim, being named Triple R album of the week and singles We’re Mostly Made of Water and Cemetary being added to Triple J rotation.
Brisbane's Tragic/Athletic will open the night, unveiling a contemplative and languid multi-vocalled take on alt-country.
