Join us for for the launch of Damien Kingsbury's latest work, Politics in Contemporary Southeast Asia, with special guest Senator Penny Wong.

Professor Damien Kingsbury is the Director of the Master of International and Community Development, at Deakin University, teaching ADS734 The Political Development Record, ADS735 Conflict Resolution and Development, and ADS733 The Economic Development Record, as well as supervising Honours, Masters and PhD candidates.

Damien's research interests include South-East Asian/Indonesia/East Timor/Sri Lanka Politics, Political Development, the role of the military in politics, security and terrorism, post-colonial political structures and nation formation, assertions of self-determination, and civil and political rights.

In 2007 and 2012, Professor Kingsbury led the Australian NGO observer group to the East Timor presidential and parliamentary elections, following a similar task to the ballot on self-determination in 1999. In 2005, Professor Kingsbury was invited by the Crisis Management Initiative to advise the Free Aceh Movement in the Aceh peace talks being held in Helsinki. He has since advised a number of other regional organisations on methods of negotiating peaceful resolution to conflict.
