The Good Minus formed mid-2015. They have already released a self-titled EP and are working on a full-length album. The band is made of up three multi-instrumentalists who have each garnered over a decade of experience in countless duos, trios, and bands.
The three members blend their many different experiences to create exciting, intricate arrangements, featuring three part harmonies and obscure time signatures. There are elements of pop, psychedelic folk, even funk - all complemented by the full sound of three distinct voices.
The lyrics come from the brain of guitarist/singer, Matt Welch, who draws on a myriad of influences to create stories ranging from self confessional and personal, to downright surreal.
Guitarist/vocalist Matt Welch is a prolific songwriter who has released an album and several EP’s with Fly South and The Smitten. He has performed solo and also found time to complete an honours degree in music, majoring in classical guitar.
Bassist/vocalist David Kean is a member of folk guitar duo Cavanagh and Argus, along with his brother Michael. They have released one critically acclaimed album and are working on a second. As well as guitar, bass, and performing his songs solo; David was the drummer in The Smitten with Matt.
Drummer/vocalist, Stu Hazelman is also a mixed bag. He’s played with groove-based acts such as The Skylines, and as a guitarist/vocalist with his two brothers in folk harmony trio, The Hazelman Brothers. They have released an album and several EPs together. Stu also drums with swamp-rockers, Tenderloins
